Gustav Holst Berliner Philharmoniker Herbert von Karajan The Planets

Download Gustav Holst Berliner Philharmoniker Herbert von Karajan The Planets

While Boult is quite regal and elegant, Bernstein is more "over the top", and Williams is, interestingly, somewhat lean and restrained. This recording by Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic is beautifully done with the trademark wax and shine that Karajan places over the music.

Sometimes that Karajan treatment works and sometimes it doesn't, and here it does work to make "The Planets" into a wonderful sound spectacular from outer space. This is one of my go-to albums when I want to enjoy a sound system or just lose myself in musical euphoria for an hour. The Berlin Philharmoniker delivers an incredible production of The Planets, making it one of my all-time favorite works of music.

Each movement is unique, intriguing, full of energy, and spectacularly painted with depth, precision, passion, and many eargasmic moments.

It's recorded with a clarity and fullness that will make any sound system sound good, and great sound systems will melt you in your seat. The physical album is very attractive, with gold foil incorporated into the front cover. Yes, you can pull this album up on YouTube, but this CD's raw audio delivers an Weldon Irvine In Harmony depth you cannot get from compressed audio sources.

Until then I cannot recommend this CD album enough! Enjoyable production of Holst-The Planets. A gift for my Grandson who enjoyed it.

Good value. Ellis Regina O Bem Do Amor back memories of the one I hand on cassette, fidelity is much better of course. Great Music, almost like a sci-fi soundtrack before sci-fi was even thought of. Some of the previous reviewers said that this version is "sloppy", with "intonation problems", and has a lot of "wrong or missed notes" on it!

I don't hear anything like that in this superb version I've listened to this countless times which is by far the best ever recorded!!! I've heard at least 35 versions so far and this is Gustav Holst Berliner Philharmoniker Herbert von Karajan The Planets Mount Gustav Holst Berliner Philharmoniker Herbert von Karajan The Planets of all of them.

I've never heard a more menacing, powerful, or moving "Mars" as in this version by Herbert Von Karajan. I've heard many different versions but this one has the best "Mars". This is the first "Planets" I ever listened to, and with out a doubt the best. I've also have his Vienna Philharmonic version which is also very fine, and well recorded from the early 60's but this is the better of the two.

In short look no further than this version, which show's Karajan at his very finest. Quick delivery, it plays beautifully, I prefer playing something tangible like compact discs or Gustav Holst Berliner Philharmoniker Herbert von Karajan The Planets records. If one loves Gustav Holst's warhorse suite The Planets (there may be one or two insufferable cynics in the world who don't!) and believes the reason for collecting different recordings of a favorite work allows one to hear how it can be performed differently and just as effectively, it might behoove them to get hold of this truly unique performance from Bernard Haitink and the London Philharmonic/5(16).
