One of my first ever Blue Note albums, taped! Another detailed account, Andy. I came by your site today to get some clarity. Had some light wear but a quick gussy-up made for an incredible listening experience. I wanted to cross-reference my new copy with your own copy and…could it be not only do you not have this one, but ANY Gene Ammons? Or am I just missing them in the Dexter Gordon Our Man In Paris Very possible. That would be nice! Big Tenor Bossa Nova? What was I thinking? May be Dexter Gordon Our Man In Paris to reassess!

Cheers for the note! I even dig his late 60s and early 70s stuff. Some are better than others but he knew how to burn. Another hole in my Ammons section. His playing is crisp, tight, Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes Brasil 66 Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes Brasil 66 full of playful fury.

Powellwho at this stage of his life was almost continually plagued by personal problems, never sounded better than he does in this session.

His playing is a tad more laid-back here, but is nonetheless full of the brilliant harmonic asides and incendiary single-note runs he is legendary for. The rhythm section is close-knit and stop-on-a-dime accurate. AllMusic relies heavily on JavaScript. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to use the site fully.

As the title implies, Our Man in Paris was recorded in the City of Lights. It's a simple bop quartet with Gordon on sax, Powell on piano, American Kenny Clarke on drums and Frenchman Pierre Michelot on bass. It's a simple lineup, but powerful. The album kicks off with a wild rendition of the Charlie Parker classic "Scrapple From the Apple." Gordon is on fire, and Powell is sublime.

Jan 03,  · In the movie Round Midnight, the Our Man in Paris LP, is in the background for maybe a second in one scene. You had to look quickly, but the album cover had been altered so the artist’s name was Dale Turner, the character played by Dexter Gordon.

Jun 06,  · Our Man In Paris // Dexter Gordon (Blue Note BLP ) The appearance of an original Blue Note record has caused a stir in the Raggy Waltz office.   The excitement coupled with the all-around greatness of the album made a write-up necessary.   To the music we go!

This date is titled for Dexter Gordon 's living in self-imposed Parisian exile and recording there with two other exptriates and a French native. Along with Gordon, pianist Bud Powell and Kenny "Klook" Clarke were living in the City of Lights and were joined by the brilliant French bassman Pierre Michelot.9/
